Meet Dr. DJ – Master of Light

"I recommend Dr. DJ to anyone looking to create something truly unique to enhance a home, office, or private collection. His creations never disappoint." – Chuck L., Miami, FL
At Shore Road Gallery, I’m thrilled to share the work of Dr. Anthony Dallmann-Jones – better known as Dr. DJ. As a lifelong innovator and former Wisconsin Artist of the Year, Dr. DJ has redefined what it means to create art. While some artists paint with oils or watercolors, I paint with something far more elusive: Light.
Every Light Sculpture begins with a simple conversation and transforms into a one-of-a-kind experience that brightens homes, offices, galleries, and public spaces.

Light Sculptures: Art That Begins With a Conversation

My canvas isn’t paper or wood—it’s the very surface of light itself. By working with custom dichroic glass, crystal elements, and eco-conscious LED lamps, I design breathtaking arrangements of light and color that dance across walls, platforms, and shadow boxes.

Each piece is deeply personal. No two are ever alike, and every sculpture evolves from collaboration with the person who will live with it. The magic lies not only in the finished work, but in the shared creative journey.

Why I Paint With Light

People often ask me, “Why Light?” The short answer: pure joy. Light has the power to stir emotions, shift moods, and invite wonder. My hope is that when someone encounters one of my sculptures, they feel the same spark of delight that I felt while creating it.
The long answer? Well, that’s a story for another time—maybe a book, maybe even a Netflix series someday.

How I Create Light Sculptures

Every sculpture has two things in common:

  1. Light as the medium
  2. Glass as the instrument

I work with specialized dichroic glass and crystal—not prisms, but carefully crafted pieces designed to refract and project light in extraordinary ways. Paired with LED spotlights, these elements create environments of color and movement that shift with perspective and time of day.

The Four Types of Light Sculptures

I create a range of Light Sculptures to suit different spaces and visions:

Small Sculptures

Portable works on white wood platforms, 12”–24”. Rays of light reach 15–20 feet, extending across a room. ($900–$1,400)

Shadow Boxes

Encased glass and lighting inside a 20” x 40” wooden box. Perfect for collectors who want a self-contained, ready-to-hang piece. ($3,000–$5,000)

Medium Sculptures

Larger open-edge works, 24” x 36”, with glass mounted on sturdy platforms. These radiate color across entire walls and beyond. ($5,000–$12,000)

Large Installations

The grand vision: permanent site-specific works with multiple glass elements. These installations transform entire spaces with light reaching up to 30 feet. ($30,000–$75,000+)

Bringing Light Into Your World

"Dr. DJ is clearly the leader in the field of light art. His innovations trigger dynamic, and almost unbelievable, effects." – Charles Lindsay, Palm Beach, FL

Every piece I create is an invitation to see the world differently. Whether it’s a small piece for a private home or a monumental installation for a public space, my Light Sculptures are about more than decoration—they’re about transformation.

Purchase a Light Scuplture

Light sculptures are unique, complex art pieces that often require permanent installation in a home or gallery. Anything larger than a Medium-sized piece will require a personal consult, so that the sculpture can be tailored to the needs of the client and the space.
