Our Creative Vision
The inspiration behind Shore Road Gallery.
"Art : Our passionate journey."
Anthony Dallmann-Jones - "Dr. DJ" Art is an emotional rollercoaster. No passion, no art - it's that simple.
Painting: I began in ceramics, and my idol was Peter Voulkos. He said, "You don't let dirt dictate the art - your work should prove you are the master!!" His work was described accurately as a "full frontal assault" on both clay and painting and my abstracts reflect his influence on me. Even the Sacred Geometry Series, as precise as it looks, was painted purely by impulse.Â
Light Sculptures: Words escape me. You have to "be" with one in person to get it at the cellular level. 95% of people, upon first seeing one, involuntarily call out, "Wow!!" The other 5% say the same thing with a four-letter word.
Short Version: To us, art is passionate transformation.

Meet the Artist: Anthony Dallmann-Jones, PhD
A self-described "creative," Anthony Dallmann-Jones - "Dr. DJ" was named Wisconsin's Artist of the Year in 2014. As an art minor in college, his devotion to the craft manifested itself in convincing his professor to restructure two standard ceramics courses into six one-credit classes. This creative negotiation allowed him to immerse himself in the ceramics studio for six semesters, rather than just two. He would sometimes hide in a closet when security locked the building at night so he could continue creating.Â
Pottery set the stage. Mentors like Rex Fogt, Jack Earl, Paul Soldner, and Peter Voulkos inspired him to stop making decorative and functional things and jump with both feet into sculpture.Â
My first attempt at painting was with watercolors because my girlfriend was an art major. It was horrible! I called it "watery colors" because I had stuff running all over the paper - just trying to paint a damn tree or a bird. Back to pottery. Then I got into welding. Then one day, acrylics appeared on the scene. They dried fast (I have always been impatient), and they didn't smell oily, and, best of all, they stayed in place. I don't know how it happened, but it just swept me away as soon as I gave up landscapes and figurative art and moved into abstract painting. It was emotional, so was I. It was liberating, and freedom is, out of 120 values, No.1 with me. I have been successful with it, which speaks to my authenticity. I will paint forever, always pushing back the boundaries...because that is freedom in action.
If I were paralyzed from the neck down, I would paint with the brush in my teeth.
Dr. DJ lives in Northport, Maine, and has studios in his home and in a 3-car garage that has been transformed into a gallery. He holds exhibits on the last weekends in May, August, and November. All other gallery visits are by appointment only.
My son, Zak - an incredible artist - and I owned a gallery on State Street in Madison, Wisconsin. It sucked up all my creative energies, like a commercial vacuum cleaner. I loved the Gallery, my employees, my patrons, and the city, but my own artistic output dwindled to near zero. I had to sell the gallery, and it was the wisest decision my artself ever made - liberating me.
Freedom is the essence of passion, which is the essence of art...the passion to transform.
Meet the Artist: Amy Dallmann-Jones

"My mission is to fill spaces with beauty...whether it be my garden, my home, my head, or my paintings."
Amy is a self-taught watercolorist with an impressive and unique style all her own. The bright colors and excellent contrast and composition make her work stand out in a most difficult medium.
Amy was co-owner of the State Street Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin, which led her to research for her work at little known places like the Louvre, The Hermitage, MOMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim, Catherine's Palace, the Vatican Museum, and especially Monet's House and Gardens at Giverny.
"Art is transformative. If you can stand in front of Mona Lisa, the Sistine Chapel, or in Monet's Garden studio and not be transformed -- well, I feel for you. My goal with my art is to inspire peace, beauty, and transformation...to encourage people to discover worlds they never knew existed."
Amy moved to the Maine Coast in 2020, after - as a child - falling in love with it when her parents vacationed here.
"I cannot count the times Tony and I have turned to each other and said, "We live here!"Â We actually do more than that...we thrive here...and are - every day - so grateful."
